About us

Who we are

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is a unique and dynamic membership organisation which comprises 15 of the UK’s leading humanitarian & aid agencies*, raising funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas.

Our strategic values of collaboration, accountability & transparency, learning, humanitarian, and impartiality, strengthen our vision to be in a world where the impact of disasters on affected communities is minimised by working together through effective humanitarian response and resilience.

Pooling our resources to work as one, we are pivotal in co-ordinating the UK public’s response to overseas disasters. In collaboration with our Rapid Response Network of national media and corporate partners, we raise the alarm to the UK public by launching high-profile appeals and setting up easy ways to donate.

DEC comprises 36 colleagues, working cohesively, efficiently, and effectively to raise and grant funds, keeping the public and our members updated on the progress of an appeal. We learn, adapt, and evolve.

*Current members: ActionAid, Action Against Hunger, Age International, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide (UK), International Rescue Committee, Islamic Relief, Oxfam, Plan International UK, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision.

Our culture and values

We are here for those affected by conflict and or climate disasters. We are neither political or religious.

Sharing ideas, supporting each other and being kind and respectful is our raison d'être at the DEC.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

The DEC is an equal opportunities employer and encourages applications from anyone who can meet the criteria of a role, regardless of gender, race, age, disability, sexuality, or religion.

The DEC is committed to the safeguarding and protection of children and vulnerable adults and participates in the Inter Agency Misconduct Disclosure Scheme. In line with this Scheme, we will request information from successful applicants’ previous employers about any findings of sexual exploitation, sexual abuse and/or sexual harassment during employment, or incidents under investigation when the applicant left employment.
